PART FOUR | The Greater Good
Right, here we go… I’m very excited about this post!!
As the earth seemingly takes a breath, I took some time to review my impact on how my business impacts our planet.
The good news is, I’m not doing too badly, the better news is, I can and WILL do better!!
Some time ago I published my environmental policy. I did also promise a quarterly review, then my year got busy in a way I could not have envisaged. So far I have yet to publish a review. So I’m undertaking this at present.
I’ve been looking back on what I’ve achieved and my shortfalls. And when I have everything in order will publish my first review. But for now, I have some thoughts and exciting announcements regarding my Business’ impact both ecologically and socially.
In my recent makeover of Studio G1 I was looking high and low for new and shiny things to fill it with.
But an even better thing happened. Upcycling! Don’t worry I won’t bang on about this here. Because I asked around I got my gear cabinets, lamp and a few odds and sods for free. I know, mad! People are always falling over themselves to help. All it takes is to ask and give them the opportunity.
My old desk was a pot of paint and some TLC away from being a piece of art. Something I was going to chuck is now looking rather swish in my new editing area.
But this isn’t going to save the world I know, but the idea is to let this ethos creep into all aspects of my business. From the decor of my studio to the Prints.
I’m excited to be sending tests to a printing house that specialises not only in incredible printing, but with an ecologically positives ethos. For now, the print house I use is exceptional and have a very good environmental policy. So until the proofs return I shall keep on as normal.
My journey towards becoming a B-Corp is moving ever forwards. I hope that this year I can do enough to get my company over the line. Changes that I have coming will be monitoring my power usage and actively trying to reduce. Using energy from ‘green’ companies and massively reducing my wastage (which is tiny anyway).
When I reach the dizzying heights of B-Corp, I’ll no doubt shout about it. If you have no idea what I’m going on about, click here to find out more about B-Corp.
Now, the most exciting thing I think I’ve done lately is to join up with ‘Offset Earth’. So every time you buy a print from me, book a headshot, hire me for a production job or anything at all. Real life, native, actual trees will be planted!!! 25 trees in fact! In places that they’re needed by people that need to plant them.
As well as this, great causes will be funded and positive change will happen! All because you decide to come and see me. Best of all, it is already in the price of your headshot. A win win!
I mean I can’t really put into words how exciting this is. So I’ll let Offset Earth do it. And you can visit ‘my’ fledgling little forest that I’m looking forward to watching grow.
As ever,
be kind. Stay safe and love, no matter what.
